The numbers you see here represent the extraordinary scale of operations at Sloss Furnaces before it stopped producing iron in 1971 and became a national historic landmark in 1981. ‍ Admission to Sloss Furnaces is FREE. You can take a self-guided tour through this 15 acre site and learn about the process and the people that made this incredible place operate 24/7. Guided tours are also available for a small fee, with immersive special tours scheduled throughout the year.

Railroad History

Live Stream Camera located at Sloss Furnace National Historical Site. Sloss Furnaces is a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. It operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971. After closing, it became one of the first industrial sites (and the only blast furnace) in the U.S. to be preserved and restored for public use. It has all kinds of displays including a classic Frisco 2-8-2 steam engine and a Baldwin DS 44-660.

The Gate Crossing camera is a fixed position camera overlooking the CP GATE RRX diamond between the NS NA/West End District and CSX Boyles Terminal Sub. There is also a connecting track which is used by the Amtrak Cardinal to reach the platform at the Birmingham Amtrak Station. All kinds of different trains run on the CSX line, while on the NS NA/West End District you will see mostly local/transfer trains and coal trains. Including BNSF intermodal trains that come off the CSX Boyles Terminal Sub and BNSF 27th Street interchange transfer job
